The Review
This is the new single from Marry Me Emelie!, a song rooted in loss. Even though its a departure from the previous styles of the band (a blend of country and indie), it's fresh and distinctly them; retaining the raw catchy guitar sounds begging to get stuck in your head, and an emotional presentation of the vocals. The single is more akin to the slow 80s alt-rock songs from the likes of the Velvet Underground and Violent Femmes (Good Feeling). Slow, in this case, is not a bad thing. As it gives the listener greater time to listen and appreciate the intricacies of the track – the coming and going of certain instruments, changes in effects, such as the increase in compression on the drums and increase in reverb as the song progresses – allowing the drums to cut through the mix at the boiling point of the song. Side note, the drum four stroke (four quarter notes on each beat within the bar) at 2:30 was so captivating to me, where the rhythm guitar follows the four stroke on the snare (I swear I have heard it in another song in the same way). It kind of reminded me of Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes and part of Flourescent Adolenscent by the Artic Monkeys.
I will be sure to make a full review when the AA-single drops, and will keep my ear to the ground for future release by the band.

Today they released the music video early. When it comes out at the end of the week, I can only recommed that you watch the masterpiece directed by Voy Bach - you may recognise some faces too such as Anna from The Other Bennet Sister.
